Trends Come and Trends Go...

I have a lot of clothes. That, we can all agree upon. You see, it really is the fashion world's fault!! Crazy thing about it is that trends come and go so quickly, but then they COME BACK! Like now, these fun patterned pants that we've been seeing on runways and everywhere else are back from a previous life! I remember having a few pairs of wild pants during my college years. Of course I gave them to good will when I looked at them after a while and thought "oh, when will I ever wear those again?!" The answer is NOW! I certainly can't keep every item in case said item comes back in, but there are certain pieces that I remember getting rid of and still kinda wish I had. A professional organizer's train of thought would be, "well, if it comes back in, you'll want the new version anyway, right". So true, but I kinda want the old one too! ;-)

HI folks! It's been one of those weeks where I can't tell if I'm coming, going, or what day of the week it even is! Ahhhh...it is Friday, right?!?! Here are the outfits from the last two days. No time for a write up though. I feel like the rabbit from Alice in Wonderland... "I'm late. I'm late. For a very important date! No time to say 'hello', 'goodbye', I'm late, I'm late, I'm late!"
Although, for the record- I am NOT late, just a tiny bit frazzled! ;-)

Fla la la la FALL!

This outfit just screams "FALL" to me! The colors and layers just make me happy! I got this skirt a few months ago and heave been waiting to wear it as one of my fall ensembles. It is light enough to wear during warm summer months, but the colors are some of my fall favs. If I had to pick, I'd say that the burnt orange color is my all time fav fall hue. Do you have certain colors you wear during certain times of the year? Magenta in the spring? turquoise in the summer? Or is it black year round? Even if you love black, you can add in little seasonal colors in your accessories. I definitely wear more brown and earth tones between Sept and Nov. Once the cold winter falls upon us, I wear more black, grey and navy, always trying to add in colorful accessories so I don't feel gloomy! You all saw my summer colors- lots of blues, greens, pinks, and purples! I LOVE color. Not everyone is so adventurous with it. As with any habit changes, I suggest you start small. Add in a colorful belt or fun red flats. Don't go from all black all the time to a mind blowing yellow dress...it might be a tad too much all at once!
Details of the shoes, belt, and bracelet!

I Heart Animal Print!

Versions of animal prints are always in so it's pretty safe to add it to your wardrobe when you find a good piece. I've never been one to be attracted to main pieces of clothing with a cheetah or zebra print, but shoes and accessories...yes please!!! I also never really seek it out. I can easily admire these prints on others, but have a harder time naturally adding them to my closet. For example, this jacket was purchased because I loved the fit and needed a cute black blazer (because, see..I only had about 4 at the time ;-)). The inside printed liner was a fun bonus. Plus, if I didn't feel up for it on any given day, I could hide the lining by buttoning the front and wearing the sleeves unrolled. For today's ensemble, I was a little worried that my jacket liner and shoes might clash since they are a similar version of some sort of animal print, but the not same. Shoes are most certainly cheetah, but sleeves are more...spotted leopard?! Dunno..I'll have to consult the catalog of large, wild cats stored in my brain to be sure. However, since they are not right up next to one another and compliment one another in the color category, I think it works. Animal print is also a fun way to jazz up an otherwise not very noteworthy outfit. I love the dress I'm wearing due to the ruffle detail (which you can't really see very well in the pic) but I feel that the animal print makes it a little more fun than a redd-ish dress and black blazer. I'm currently looking to add a fun animal print scarf and some cheetah print flats for fall. Where do you plan to add in animal print??

Keepin' My Toes Exposed!

I just read a wonderful tip from my Shopaholic's Daily Calendar 2012 desk calendar...it said, one way to fashionably transition from summer to fall is to pair open toed shoes with fall-ish outfits for as long as you can. I LOVE this advice because I prefer open toed shoes (though I do love a great pair of boots) and have many more open toed options than closed. I always do this and am happy that an official shopping calendar agrees! It can be tough as the days get cooler, of course due to comfort (brrrrr...cold tootsies!), but also due to the shape of the shoe. I try to keep my more structured, caged in open toed shoes in rotation for much longer (see today's example). To me, this just looks better as we are covered up more. The strappy, super summery looking sandals are about to be tucked in for their long winters nap.

I'm Waaaayyyy Behind!

Hi all! Sorry I've been offline for  few days. Have you missed me? Does anyone read this?! :-)

My reasons for being out of touch are: we had our FUN trip to NC for my cousin's wedding and I've been super under the weather...again. I'm planning to resume my outfit o' the day! I do have some pics on my camera at home of a few outfits from the wedding weekend as well as yesterday's ensemble. I'll post them tomorrow and get us all caught up!

Today's outfit is a product of this funky time of year...cool mornings (which I LOVE- yay almost fall!!) and warm afternoons. So...pre-fall, post-summer attire can be tricky, but layers and partially covering up are the key for me. Soon, I won't want to wear skirts/dresses without tights and short sleeves will be hidden away under cardis and jackets. For now, a combo of cropped pants and a sheer, comfy top work quite nicely to take me from the 60s of the morning to the low 80s of the afternoon!

Today's ensemble:

Pants: Old Navy
Top: Forever 21
Shoes: Charles David (DSW)
Earrings: Lia Sophia
Bracelets: bangles-gift shop at the shore in DE and Kohl's for the chunky ball one
Watch- Timex Weekender

Work Pajamas!!

Do you ever wake up for work and literally feel like wearing your PJs  instead of a business appropriate outfit? And I don't mean like my cute nightgown pjs, I mean like department store, old man pjs pants with a drawstring and button up top. I usually only feel like this, a. when I 'm sick or b. in the cold, grey, depths of a harsh winter. I realized that each season kinda has its own work appropriate "PJs"! Today I'm wearing my summer version of work pajamas- the maxi dress. Sooo comfy and non fussy. All I had to do was pick a few accessories (pink flats, scarf and silver jewelry) and I actually look somewhat pulled together! However, on closer inspection you'll notice my red nostrils that come along with my second summer cold! Boo!!! Not sure why I've been so sickly the last month and a half. I think it's my body literally repelling summer. I'm SO ready for fall! Have I mentioned that yet?! Probably so. I'll have to figure out what the other season's summer pjs look like. I know winter- it's one of my cozy, chunky, cardigan sweaters (I have one in brown and one in grey), that I pair with work slacks and boots. Even though it's still work appropriate, wearing those sweaters make me feel like I'm one step away from a cozy fireplace and a cup o' hot cocoa! What are your lazy day work pjs?! If you don't have any, then you need to get some STAT! It can be just the coziness that you need when a sick day isn't an option!

Today's ensemble:
Dress- Old Navy
Scarf- Dana Buchman for Kohl's
Shoes- Target
Earrings- Kohl's
Bracelet- bday gift from a friend (thanks Lena!)
Watch- Swatch

So I'll be out of town at a family wedding in NC beginning tomorrow. I won't have the ability to upload pics and post over the weekend, but I will do that when I return on Sunday! I'll include day and night outfits! I still have to pack tonight so who knows what I'll be wearing! FUN!

Post NORA Project

So, it's no longer a "challenge", but more of a new way of dressing. I've begun to be more thoughtful about my closet, pairings, and...still a work in progress...purchases. Last month's challenge proved that I have TOO many clothes! This can lead to guilt, frustration, and actually wearing the same old stuff over and over! I have a lot more widdling down to do in the wardrobe dept, as well as a lot more creative pairing. I hope that my challenge will continue to inspire me and not just fade away. I took a break this weekend, but I plan to continue to capture my daily outfits here each day.

Today's outfit is made of a combo of repeats and "new" items. I did wear the shoes, watch, belt, and possibly the cardi. The pants are a newer purchase and I have been dying to wear them! I didn't wear them during NORA since I vowed to not wear anything that I bought that month. The shirt and earrings are alos "new", not to my closet, but to this blog. I'm hoping you'll still continute to follow me and be inspired to get creative with your wardrobe!
